Germany, France Seek Cross-Border CO2 Tax in EU Green Deal Moves

Germany, France assessing “all possible” models for a WTO-compliant cross-border CO2 tax, environment ministries from both states said Monday in joint declaration.

  • “If other states follow less ambitious climate strategies, their companies can gain a competitive advantage on the international markets, which leads to carbon leakage and would harm the effectiveness of national (emission) reduction measures and the competitiveness of the EU:”
