HILL TAX BRIEFING: Republicans Prep SALT Cap Strategy for Floor

Senate Democrats may still be debating what to do about the $10,000 federal deduction cap on state and local tax payments, but their Republican colleagues are already working on a plan to block any changes once a tax-and-spend plan hits the floor.

Raising the SALT cap is a priority for a bloc of lawmakers from New York, New Jersey, and other high-tax states who argue it unfairly hits their constituents. The House-passed reconciliation package would temporarily lift the cap to $80,000, while Senate Democrats are discussing an alternative plan to allow some people an unlimited deduction.
