IRS Allows E-Filing of Amended Individual Income Tax Returns

The IRS now will allow individuals to file amended income tax returns electronically using commercial tax software products. Until now taxpayers have had to mail a paper Form 1040-X.

The agency said in a news release Monday that the latest development is a major milestone that will allow it to receive amended returns faster and enable taxpayers to correct their returns with fewer errors.
