The IRS extended, through next summer, a memorandum easing its acceptance of e-signatures and use of email during the coronavirus pandemic.
The latest memorandum, dated Dec. 1, follows prior memos released in March and June. The memo temporarily allows IRS employees to accept scanned or photographed images of signatures and digital signatures on documents related to tax assessment and collection. It also temporarily allows employees to use email to accept documents and secure messaging systems to transmit them to taxpayers.
