IRS Seeking Private Companies to Aid With Cryptocurrency Audits

The IRS is looking for private contractors, such as cryptocurrency tax software companies, to help it audit the tax returns of cryptocurrency users.

“The Internal Revenue Service is engaging outside contractors to assist our revenue agents in calculating taxpayers’ gains or losses as a result of their transactions involving virtual currency,” the IRS said in an email Tuesday night to several companies in the cryptocurrency space. The IRS confirmed the authenticity of the email.
