IRS Turns Down Watchdog Ideas for Gig Worker Tax Compliance

The IRS disagrees with a government watchdog recommendation to change a tax form to help gig workers understand more easily if they received money from an online platform.

  • “IRS said it has no evidence that platform workers pose a greater compliance risk and that the platform worker designation, by itself, would not be a selection factor for compliance actions,” the Government Accountability Office said in a report released Monday. “We found that IRS has not measured this risk, in part, because it cannot easily identify the workers.”
