The IRS can demand user records from cryptocurrency exchange Kraken, but the door is still open for the exchange and its users to later challenge it, a federal court ruled.
The U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California previously told the government to narrow the scope of records it wanted from the exchange as part of its push to go after potential cryptocurrency tax evasion. The Wednesday order from the court granted the government permission to serve that narrowed summons, but added that both Kraken and its users may still challenge the summons in court.
