Louisiana Property Tax Assessor’s Well Valuation Off by Millions (1)

The Louisiana Tax Commission properly rejected a property tax assessor’s four-year valuation of an energy company’s wells for being off the mark by about $10.8 million, the Louisiana Supreme Court ruled.

Jefferson Davis Parish Assessor Donald Kratzer valued D90 Energy LLC’s two gas wells and one saltwater disposal well at more than $3 million for each year between 2013 to 2015 and about $1.8 million for 2016. D90 then “unsuccessfully protested” to the Jefferson Davis Parish Board of Review. The state tax commission overruled that decision, holding that the fair market value of the wells was just $235,000 ...
