Mnuchin Says No Changes Planned for Carried Interest Benefit (1)

Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said May 22 that the administration has no plans to eliminate the preferential tax treatment of carried interest profits, three days after President Donald Trump said he wanted to do just that.

“We’re not doing anything,” Mnuchin told reporters after he finished testifying before the House Financial Services Committee.

“I know that’s something the president is interested in,” Mnuchin said, but said that changing the tax treatment would require legislation.
