Montana Voters Approve Initiative Legalizing Marijuana, Tax on Non-Medical Marijuana

The Montana Voters Nov. 3 approved an initiative legalizing marijuana. The initiative includes measures: 1) requiring the Department of Revenue to license and regulate the cultivation, transportation, and sale of marijuana and marijuana-infused products; and 2) establishing a 20 percent tax on non-medical marijuana. The initiative generally takes effect Oct. 1, 2021, with certain licensing parts taking effect Jan. 1, 2021. [Mont. Initiative No. 190, approved by ballot 11/03/20]
