Neal Officially Takes Helm at House Tax-Writing Panel

The House formally approved Rep. Richard Neal as the next chairman of the Ways and Means Committee, an influential panel that handles tax, trade, and health policy.

The chamber approved a resolution (H. Res. 7) officially tapping Neal for the role Jan. 3—the first day of the 116th Congress. Text of the resolution isn’t yet available, but a spokesman for House Democratic Caucus Chairman Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) told Bloomberg Tax Jan. 4 that the measure placed Neal at the helm of the tax-writing panel.

Health care will be the initial priority for Neal, he told Bloomberg Tax Jan....
