New Jersey Panel Again Rips Tax Break Programs

A task force appointed by New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy ended its 18-month probe of the state’s economic development tax incentives Thursday with warnings that professional consultants had tainted the program’s application process.

In its third and final report, the task force pointed to more than $578 million in questionable incentives it has referred to the Economic Development Authority or law enforcement agencies for further investigation. The report is expected to feed into unresolved legislative debate over the future of the program, which lapsed in June 2019 after Murphy vetoed legislative fixes he deemed inadequate.
