New York AG Announces Demand to Delay New York City Property Tax Lien Sale

The New York Attorney General (AG) Aug. 31 announced a demand encouraging New York City to delay its annual tax and water debt lien sale to shield 4,700 mostly minority homeowners from undue financial burdens and the potential loss of their property during the coronavirus pandemic. Every year, the city’s Department of Finance holds a tax lien sale, whereby the tax liens on properties for unpaid property taxes and water bills are auctioned. The sale is scheduled for Sept. 4.
