New York homeowners behind on their property taxes won a temporary reprieve that will allow them to continue to be eligible for a popular state-funded tax exemption program.
Gov. Kathy Hochul late Friday signed a law sponsored by Democrat New York Assemblymember Karen McMahon (A5374) and Democrat state Senator Sean Ryan (S5132), delaying a provision in the state budget that rendered homeowners with past-due tax bills ineligible for applying to the STAR exemption program.
