New York’s Last-Minute $10 Billion Tax Deal Draws Scrutiny (1)

Hours before the New York Legislature ended its session Thursday night, policy makers quietly fast-tracked approval of a multibillion-dollar corporate tax break for chip manufacturers at the behest of Democratic Gov. Kathy Hochul.

The last-minute addition to the flurry of bills passed last week by lawmakers has come under scrutiny not just for potentially costing taxpayers up to $10 billion over a 20-year horizon but also for skirting transparency without holding a single public hearing or debate before approval of the massive corporate subsidy program.
