Novel California Tax Filing Option for Foreign Workers Advances

A bill to allow employers to file group income taxes for their foreign workers who have been unable to obtain federal taxpayer identification numbers passed the California Assembly.

The voluntary option in A.B. 2660 by Assemblywoman Autumn Burke (D) would be the first of its kind in the country, solving a tax compliance problem for companies that employ foreign workers when they travel to work in California. It moves to the Senate for debate after a 60-0 vote Wednesday.
