OECD Model Rules Aim to Standardize Gig Economy Tax Reporting

Gig economy platforms such as Amazon.com Inc. and Uber Technologies Inc. have model rules from the OECD for reporting tax activities of vendors on their platforms.

Under the rules published Monday by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, such platforms would be expected to collect and store information on vendors who use their services. The aim is to help tax authorities minimize avoidance and evasion of value-added tax and goods and services tax.
