There’s a new petition in Florida to legalize recreational marijuana, and the lobbyist behind the movement is confident it will meet its necessary threshold to appear on the state’s 2020 ballot.
Nick Hansen, chair of Make It Legal Florida, a political committee pushing for the legalization of recreational pot, said he filed the petition with the state’s board of elections Aug. 23. Hansen is also the regional director of government affairs for MedMen Enterprises Inc., a Culver City, Calif.-based cannabis company.
The petition will need 766,200 signatures to land on the state’s November 2020 ballot.
