Repeat Whistleblower Could Get Tax Court Anonymity

A retired accountant may be able to proceed anonymously through a U.S. Tax Court case even though he is a repeat filer of whistleblower claims.

It was an “abuse of discretion” for the Tax Court to deny anonymity on the basis of his serial filings, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit ruled on July 26. Releasing the whistleblower’s name wasn’t necessary for the public to assess whether the person files claims repeatedly or how that affects the Tax Court’s work, it said.
