S. Korea Plans New Green Act to Reach Net-Zero Emissions by 2050

South Korea’s ruling Democratic Party plans to enact a “Green New Deal” act to fulfill its pledge of achieving net-zero carbon dioxide emissions by 2050, it said in a statement posted on its website.

  • Party will consider a carbon tax while aiming to cut ultra-fine dust emissions to annual average of 10 micrograms per square meter by 2040, from current 23 micrograms
  • Policies in line with recommendations made by IPCC to reduce risk of climate crisis
