Tax Court Warns of Processing Delays Due to Influx of Petitions

The U.S. Tax Court is facing a deluge of tax petitions this year, but reminded taxpayers Friday that the IRS generally can’t assess or collect tax debts if a petition was filed on time.

The court said it has already received more than 24,000 petitions so far this year. In a typical year, the court receives between 23,000 and 26,000 petitions.
