Texas Pacific Land Weighs C-Corp Shift After 131 Years as Trust

Texas Pacific Land Trust, the major landowner in the oil-rich Permian Basin that has been embroiled in a proxy fight, said it plans to evaluate if it should convert into a regular corporation.

The trust is forming a committee to explore the idea of turning into a so-called C-corp, it said in a statement on June 24. It has invited Horizon Kinetics, a dissident investor that has fought to appoint a trustee, to join the committee. A potential conversion would be the firm’s first since it was established in 1888.
