Treasury Still Weighing Options on Opportunity Zone Guidance

Treasury hasn’t decided whether to fuse two batches of proposed regulations that have been released on the 2017 tax law’s opportunity zones tax breaks, an official said.

The second set (REG-120186-18) of proposed rules alters the first set (REG-115420-18). Bryan Rimmke, an attorney-adviser in the Treasury Department’s Office of Tax Policy, said June 19 that the department is still debating how to handle them. A public hearing on the guidance is set for July 9.
