Treasury Watchdog Recommends More Secure IRS Internal Network

A Treasury watchdog is recommending a more secure way for employees and contractors to connect to its internal network.

A report from the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration (TIGTA) released Thursday suggested that the IRS’s Chief Information Officer implement a certificate-based authentication system for those connecting to the network through a wireless device or a virtual private network. It also suggested the development of a plan to lessen the number of devices that connect to the network using a weaker protocol.
