U.K. Assures Contractor Tax Status Rules Aren’t Retrospective

The U.K. issued more guidance for companies that must determine the tax status of contractors under new rules, assuring them that the rules aren’t retrospective.

The rules, known as IR35, aim to ensure that contract workers pay about the same tax and social security contributions as a company’s employees. The guidance first applied to public sector employers in 2017, and is being expanded to apply to private sector employers as of April 6.
