The coronavirus epidemic has uprooted plans to finish training all federal agents and special agents who were underway in fiscal year 2020, Don Fort, chief of the agency’s Criminal Investigation division said.
- The division had 10 classes on the schedule for fiscal year 2020, amounting to 240 special agents, which would have been about 10% of the division’s special agent workforce.
- But the training center in Georgia shut down at the end of March because of the pandemic “and has pretty much ceased training since that time,” Fort said Thursday during a webinar hosted by NYU School of Professional Studies.
- “We’re hoping to pick that up and get that full complement of classes back in 2021,” he said.
