Ways and Means OK Sets Tax Administration Bill Up for Floor Vote

The Ways and Means Committee approved legislation by voice vote that would rework some IRS operations—setting up a vote on the House floor in the coming weeks.

H.R. 1957 is a bipartisan, bicameral measure that is supported by the leaders of both tax-writing committees in Congress. The bill, approved April 2, is similar to legislation (H.R. 7227) the House passed at the end of 2018 with a few small changes, including a higher penalty on taxpayers who file their returns more than 60 days after they’re due.
