IRS Commissioner Charles Rettig reiterated the agency’s intent to crack down on cryptocurrency tax evasion, saying taxpayers don’t have much of an excuse to be confused after the agency released guidance.
“Who’s not sure of the taxability of crypto? I have this, I have this. It’s not in the return,” he said Oct. 28, noting that the IRS recently issued guidance on the topic. “We’re very concerned with the volume of some things that are not in the returns.”
Rettig spoke at a Philadelphia conference hosted by the American Bar Association’s tax section.
