Netflix Inc. failed to persuade a federal judge to cancel three patents related to rendering content on wireless devices that a patent-holding firm alleges Netflix’s streaming platform infringes.
The representative claim of each GoTV Streaming LLC patent covers “specific improvements in computer capabilities rather than an abstract idea,” Judge R. Gary Klausner wrote in an order issued Wednesday in the US District Court for the Central District of California. He denied Netflix’s motion seeking judgments invalidating the patents, which originally were assigned to Phunware Inc.
