President Joe Biden said he wanted to cancel the Willow oil drilling project in the North Slope of Alaska but was ultimately swayed by administration lawyers to approve a limited version.
Biden said we was warned that if he blocked the project, ConocoPhillips, the energy giant that intends to build the drilling sites, would likely challenge the decision in court — and prevail.
A victory for the energy company, Biden said, could complicate his efforts to “do what I really want to do.”
