Sen. Ed Markey, one of the original sponsors of the Green New Deal, announced a legislative proposal Tuesday to increase and accelerate clean energy projects, largely by empowering the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission.
The package consists of some existing bills, the Massachusetts Democrat said, and aims to boost spending for climate infrastructure projects in underserved areas. It also would require utilities to announce clean energy goals and proposals with an eye on greater accessibility and consultation with communities.
