Efforts led by Republicans to roll back the scope of President Joe Biden’s “Waters of the US” regulations could have consequences lawmakers didn’t intend, an agency official told Congress on Wednesday.

That’s because such a roll back could also nix provisions from the Biden administration that allow for more flexibility and exemptions to the rule—meant to ease regulatory burdens, Radhika Fox, EPA’s assistant administrator for water, said at a Senate Environment Committee hearing.
