Covid to Top Audit Board Inspections; Unpredictability Added

The response of auditors to the pandemic’s economic effects on their clients, including workforce changes and creation of new risks, will be front and center as inspectors start reviewing their 2020 work.

The Public Company Accounting Oversight Board, which annually reviews the audit work of the largest firms, will be looking carefully at their work for clients in retail, entertainment, manufacturing, transportation, and other industries hardest hit by the coronavirus pandemic, according to board member Megan Zietsman. She spoke Monday at the American Institute of CPA’s annual financial reporting conference.
