A leading global accounting body called for national authorities to put teeth into companies’ sustainability disclosures by making it mandatory that they be audited, as the European Union has already proposed.
The International Federation of Accountants said Monday that audited environmental, social, and governance disclosures should be required to ensure confidence in the information. IFAC is the umbrella body for accounting organizations in 135 countries, and each country must decide individually whether to require audits of ESG disclosures.
