As Virus Spreads, SEC Gives Companies More Time to File Reports

With the coronavirus starting to wreak havoc on businesses, U.S. regulators are giving companies more time to publish reports poured over by investors that detail everything from profits to plans to sell shares.

The virus, which has spread since first being reported in December in China, could make it difficult for companies to meet their filing requirements, the Securities and Exchange Commission said in a Wednesday statement. To deal with the challenges, the agency said it would grant firms that show they need extra time an extra 45 days to meet filing deadlines that hit in March and April.
