The Health Resources and Services Administration sent letters to several hospitals that participate in a federal drug discount program earlier this month, asking the hospitals to provide detailed information about how they comply with the program’s requirements.
The 340B program requires drugmakers to discount drugs for covered entities—qualifying hospitals, clinics, and providers—that treat low-income and uninsured patients. Under the program, drug manufacturers participating in Medicaid agree to provide outpatient drugs to those qualifying providers at significantly reduced prices.
