Cancer & Hematology Centers of Western Michigan PC escaped a proposed class action alleging its negligence led to a data breach that exposed the personal health information of thousands of patients.
Plaintiff Bridget Shepherd didn’t have standing to file the lawsuit because her data wasn’t compromised in the December 2021 breach, Judge Paul L. Maloney of the US District Court for the Western District of Michigan said Tuesday.
Maloney granted the Centers’ motion to dismiss.
Shepherd claimed in her lawsuit that the Centers failed to implement adequate cybersecurity measures needed to protect the sensitive information of patients and employees.
