The US Coast Guard needs an infusion of resources to keep pace with migrants seeking to enter the US by sea and to meet other demands, a top official told lawmakers.
A funding boost “is critical to buy the Coast Guard we need to support surging operations, emergency response, and increased security needs” across the country, including in the South Florida region where the service has had to step up resources, said Rear Adm. Jo-Ann Burdian, assistant commandant for response policy.
