Backlogs in US Labor Department certification for foreign agricultural worker positions are holding up temporary visas, threatening crop harvests and supply chains, Republican House lawmakers told acting Labor Secretary Julie Su in a letter Thursday.
Under the H-2A visa program, agricultural employers can add foreign workers to perform temporary farm labor. Before applying for the visas, they must get a determination from DOL that there aren’t workers available domestically to fill the positions and that hiring foreign workers won’t adversely affect wages for American workers.
