Cigna Must Face Trial in Florida Hospitals’ Payment Dispute

Eight Florida hospitals have been given another chance to prove that Cigna Health & Life Insurance Co. significantly underpaid them for emergency services provided to Cigna-insured patients.

Florida law requires health insurers to reimburse out-of-network hospitals at the “community” rate. How that rate is determined is a jury question, the US Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit said Thursday, reviving a lawsuit against the insurer.
