Smart-Thermostat Dispute Will Be Probed by U.S. Trade Agency

The U.S. International Trade Commission said it has formally begun an investigation prompted by a patent-infringement complaint lodged against companies including Alphabet’s Google, Honeywell and Siemens over smart thermostat and HVAC technology.

  • EcoFactor is seeking to block imports of thermostats made by the companies, as well as ones by Ecobee, Carrier, Emerson Electric, Resideo and Johnson Controls
  • Google and Emerson Electric have filed civil suits asking courts in California and Delaware to rule they don’t infringe EcoFactor patents
  • NOTE: This is the second ITC case EcoFactor has filed; a judge is scheduled to release his findings in April ...
