Austria Proposes Reductions in Income Tax, Social Contributions

A proposal to reduce Austrian income tax rates and introduce an employee deduction for health-insurance contributions was released May 1 by the country’s government.

The proposal (German) would introduce the tax changes gradually from 2020 to 2022. In 2020, an employee deduction for health-insurance contributions would be introduced. The deduction would increase to a maximum of 350 euros (U.S. $392.11) a year in contributions for employees who receive a gross monthly salary of 1,350 euros (U.S. $1,512.41) a month, the proposal said.
