Halts in Federal Jobless Aid Spread to Alabama, Mississippi (1)

Momentum is growing among Republican-led states to cut off federal pandemic unemployment benefits earlier than scheduled, with Alabama, Mississippi, and now Iowa making the latest announcements and others publicly considering the move.

The announcements by the neighboring Gulf Coast states Monday plus Iowa’s announcement Tuesday morning added to last week’s news from Arkansas, Montana, and South Carolina. Each state will stop distributing pandemic unemployment aid for gig workers and the extra $300 per week provided under federal Covid-19 relief.
