Uruguay Senate Considers Bill to Amend Tax Residency Rules

The Uruguayan Senate June 16 accepted for consideration Bill No. 146555, amending tax residency rules for taxpayers with Uruguayan tax resident status as of 2020. The bill includes measures to: 1) extend the exemption from the individual income tax (IRPF) regime to 10 years from five years for all foreign-sourced income; and 2) provide the taxpayer the option of being taxed at a 7 percent rate under the IRPF regime for the tax year in which the residence is established.
