More PFAS Cleanups Possible Following Two Coming EPA Rules

Two rules the EPA aims to propose later this year could help the agency and state regulators order PFAS cleanups, an official said Wednesday.

The first regulation would propose to list four per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) as hazardous Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) constituents, said Andy Crossland, who directs the Environmental Protection Agency’s Materials Recovery and Waste Management Division.

The second rule, which would clarify how the EPA defines hazardous wastes regulated under RCRA, could indirectly affect PFAS if the chemicals at a specific site meet the statutory definition of such wastes, he said at an information exchange ...
