CSX Safety Whistleblower Seeks Back Pay, Damages for Dismissal

CSX Transportation Inc. faces allegations in a federal civil lawsuit that the railroad dismissed an engineer for reporting safety issues.

The lawsuit, filed by Dorothy Gasiorowski-Watts Tuesday in the US District Court for the Northern District of Ohio, seeks up to $380,000 in back pay and damages.

The rail company fired Gasiorowski-Watts in February 2018, according to the lawsuit. In July 2018, prior to suing CSX, the Cleveland engineer filed a complaint with the US Department of Labor alleging her dismissal violated the Federal Rail Safety Act, which prohibits railroads from retaliating against workers for reporting safety issues.
