Memphis May Bar Some Traffic Stops After Tyre Nichols’ Death

A city council member in Memphis, Tennessee, has proposed legislation that would bar police from pulling drivers over for six minor traffic violations, following the death of Tyre Nichols after a police traffic stop last month.

“This is a proactive effort,” said City Council member Michalyn Easter-Thomas, who introduced the ordinance, in a press conference. “We want to decrease the possibility of negative interactions.”
