EU Struggles for Unified Position on OECD Digital Tax Proposals

European Union finance ministers have agreed to work together to produce a unified position on OECD digital tax proposals, despite member state divisions over whether, and how, to change international corporate tax law.

“There was an agreement to consider an EU harmonized approach,” European Budget Commissioner Gunther Oettinger said May 17 following a European Council of Economic and Financial Affairs meeting in Brussels.

Oettinger said member states aren’t willing to discuss the structural aspects of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development digital tax proposals.
