IMF Leader Supports Global Tax Pact, Says It Will Help Africa

The International Monetary Fund’s managing director reiterated her support for a global agreement on minimum taxes and digital taxation, and said it would help Africa in particular.

A global minimum tax “can end the race to the bottom and reduce tax avoidance,” and an agreement on digital taxation “would help ensure fairer distribution of tax revenues—which will help address Africa’s significant financing needs,” said IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva on Wednesday, in prepared remarks at the African Development Bank’s annual meeting. Georgieva has previously indicated she supports a global tax agreement.
