GOP Senator Leads White House Talks on AI Preemption Package

A top Republican senator is working on a legislative deal with the White House that would preempt state laws on artificial intelligence while creating protections for children and addressing risks like deepfakes.

Sen. Marsha Blackburn (Tenn.), who sits on both of the powerful Commerce and Judiciary panels, “is spearheading the negotiation with the White House to finalize legislative text of an AI preemption package that includes protections for kids, creators, and communities,” spokesperson Audrey Cook said in a statement.

The White House didn’t immediately respond for comment.
